JOB SUMMARY : under the direct supervision of the campus store manager, the employee performs duties related to the cash and to receiving/shipping merchandise. The employee processes retail sales & cash register transactions, sells floor merchandise and/or assists customers with purchases, orders and/or deliveries as required. Restocks shelves and maintains merchandising and visual display standards. Implements stock control and security procedures and maintains appropriate records. The employee also verifies merchandise and organizes its distribution, prepares related documents and maintains storage areas.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
CASHIER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greets customers in a timely, professional and personable manner
- Operates computerized cash register to conduct sales transactions; handles cash, and makes change as required
- Sells merchandise, advises customers, answers questions on merchandise price, features and/or on fees and services
- Prepares routine daily reports such as sales, web orders, credit card receipts
- Receives, sorts, shelves, labels, replenishes, and rotates stock, and displays merchandise in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Ensures that stock levels and displays are in accordance with established standard
- Monitors and maintains the condition and safekeeping of merchandise and maintains a neat, clean and well merchandised store
- Informs buyers of the customer needs and desires
- Oversees the processing of routine returns
- Cash register reconciliation, daily bank deposits and miscellaneous routine reports
- Monitors store inventory and reports low stock to buyers
- Cleans shelves, counters, and tables to maintain a tidy environment
- Watches for and recognizes security risks and thefts, and knows how to prevent or handle these situations
- Assists with ordering of sundries, pre-paid gift cards, giftware and seasonal items
- Assists with assembly of course material kits and with special orders
- Assists with training temporary employees for the cash and web orders
- Fulfils and processes wed orders
- Assists staff with orders and gift wrapping
- Assists students to troubleshoot with e-texts
- Performs other related tasks, as may be assigned
RECEIVER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receives merchandise, accounts for all boxes, checks and signs delivery slips, assists with unloading as necessary
- Unpacks merchandise and accompanying documentation, verifies the quality and quantity of items against supporting documents
- Stocks shelves and rotates inventory
- Makes tags/signage for book storage shelves and organizes said shelves for merchandise
- Affixes clothing tags with bar code and retail price
- Handles web order pick-ups and assists with preparing/processing of web orders, as required
- Organizes packing and shipping of web orders
- Organizes daily shipping
- Packs and ships returns to suppliers
- Participates in taking inventory
- Organizes remaining sale inventory and tracking system in storage room
- Maintains storage areas, organizes and places stock on shelves, ensures areas are always secure
- Receives course packs from the Print Room and distributes teacher copies
- Prepares course material kits, as needed
- Stores past files needed for record keeping in storage room
- Performs other related tasks, as may be assigned
EDUCATION: To have a secondary school diploma (DES) or a diploma of vocational studies (DEP) or have a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
- One-year related retail experience an asset
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office
- English (intermediate oral, written and written comprehension)
- French (basic oral)
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- High degree of accuracy required to operate the 'Point-of-Sale' Bookware 3000
- Physical ability to bend, reach and lift up to 30 pounds
- Physical ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time
- Ability to work outdoors to assist with unloading shipments, as required
- Ability to multitask
- Knowledge of Canva an asset
