Police Technology Teacher
JOHN ABBOTT COLLEGE has the following anticipated vacancies for the Winter 2026 semester
DISCIPLINE: Police Technology (310-01) TYPE OF CONTRACT: Part-time contract representing full and/or part-time workload. AREA OF EXPERTISE: To teach:
a) Self-defense 310-471-AB (1 section) b) Emergency Response 310-171-AB (4 sections)
QUALIFICATIONS:
POLICE TECHNOLOGY (310)
- DEC or equivalent in Police Technology AND Bachelor's or equivalent* degree in related field
- DEC in Police Technology, or other qualifications in a related field with extensive relevant work experience, may be considered
- Minimum of 3 years directly related experience in the discipline(s)/subjects to be taught
- Several years related teaching experience at the post-secondary level preferred.
- Ability to collaborate within a departmental team to achieve common objectives
- Successful candidates without a university degree may be required to complete Bachelor's degree or Master Teacher's Program within a designated time period

Bilingualism (English/French) and ability to teach in French are preferred, as in the context of Bill 96 and the changes to the Charte de la langue française, if there is a need, the candidate must be willing and able to teach in French.

Equivalent establishes a general comparison between two official education systems
In addition to above, specific qualifications/experience required to teach
- Experience in interviewing at a crime as the first responder, protection of individuals and crime scene; collection and preservation of evidence, including D.N.A. and photographic evidence
- Experience in adapting the principles and techniques of communication to the context of police intervention related to the everyday occupational situations encountered by police officers
- Experience in the analysis and communication of criminal offenses using material generally used by police officers during testimony in court

CONTROL OF VIOLENT INDIVIDUALS AND/OR SELF DEFENSE
- Bachelor's or equivalent* degree in Physical Education
- Bachelor's degree in a related field may be considered
- Experience teaching at a Police Academy
- Martial Arts Instructor Certification
EMERGENCY RESPONDER
- C.P.R. Instructor certification
- 1st Responder certification
