Job Title: Dean of Academic Development and Research
Description
Under the authority of the Academic Dean, the Dean of Academic Development and Research is responsible for the planning, development, organizing, administration, control and evaluation of all services under their responsibility. The Dean plays an active role in the activities of the Academic Office and collaborates in the definition of the academic, pedagogical and administrative orientations and objectives of the College. They also play a role in the selection and hiring, supervision, evaluation and development of their departments' personnel. The Dean of Academic Development and Research is accountable for the management of the financial and material resources of departments under their responsibility and the realization and achievement of objectives and strategies identified by Vanier's Strategic Plan and the Academic sector.
Responsibilities:
More specifically, but not limited to, the Dean of Academic Development and Research:
- In collaboration with the Faculty Deans, reviews and approves the program work plans and insures appropriate support for programs from the Pedagogical Support and Innovation office;
- In collaboration with the Faculty Deans, analyzes the pedagogical needs of the departments, disciplines and programs;
- In collaboration with the Academic Steering Committee, is responsible for the implementation and application of academic and pedagogical policies, procedures and regulations for the programs under their sector, including the Student Success Plan;
- Coordinates the monitoring, implementation, documentation and processes related to the Student Success Plan, the
Program Management Policy and the Institutional Policy on the Evaluation of Student Achievement;
- In collaboration with the Academic Steering Committee, ensures the quality of the program revisions in accordance with the Program Management Policy;
- In collaboration with the Academic Dean and other relevant managers in the College, coordinates the implementation of quality assurance mechanisms, monitoring and documentation;
- Oversees Research development, grant applications and the application of external and internal processes, procedures, regulations and documentation;
- In collaboration with the Academic Steering Committee and coordinators of the Pedagogical Support and Innovation office and the Learning Commons, ensures the monitoring of the Student Success Plan;
- Coordinates and monitors, in collaboration with other Deans, student success activities and data;
- Establishes budgetary estimates, administers the operational budget of their departments, questions discrepancies and takes corrective measures as appropriate;
- Oversees, in collaboration with the coordinator, the Pedagogical Support and Innovation office and its activities: mechanisms for ongoing program improvement, research and innovation, pedagogical animation, data information, partnerships, institutional dossiers, etc;
- Oversees, in collaboration with the coordinator, the Learning Commons and its activities: library, tutoring and Academic Success Centre and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Centre;
- In the accomplishment of their mandates, maintains a liaison with internal services and external organizations as required;
- Plays an active role in the activities of the Academic Council as requested by the Academic Dean;
- Act as the Academic Dean when required.
Other related responsibilities as requested by the Academic Dean.

Salary: $103,235 - $137,644
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree, Graduate Degree preferred, in an appropriate specialization, and a minimum of six (6) years of pertinent experience, preferably in the CEGEP network;
- Pedagogical Management experience preferred;
- Teaching Experience preferred, ideally at the CEGEP level;
- Hierarchical supervisory experience an asset;
- Must be highly organized and have strong teamwork skills;
- Must have very strong time management skills;
- Ability to resolve problems of a complex nature;
- Must possess strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills, written and oral, in both English and French (to be tested);
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word (to be tested).
